Douglas County Drug Court Opportunity

Have you been charged with a non-violent felony related to your substance abuse? You are likely to be scared about the possibility of spending time in prison. This arrest and charge may have also made you aware that you have an unmanageable problem with your substance abuse and need to seek treatment.

The Program

Since the late 1990s, Douglas County has provided a program that can keep admitted participants out of prison and get them the help they need to recover from substance addiction. Called Adult Drug Court, the project frees prison space for violent offenders while giving a second chance to those who get accepted into the program.

Adult Drug Court provides a three-phase program for treatment that includes:

  • Assessments and drug and alcohol evaluations
  • Drug Court appearances
  • Treatment provided by the court, as well as outside support group attendance
  • Community service

Eligibility

Candidates for program admission are:

  • Charged with a non-violent felony related to substance abuse
  • Documented having a drug addiction or dependency
  • Approved for application by program officials

You may be considered for the program even if:

  • You have a previous trafficking felony conviction, or
  • You had a violent offense committed over ten years ago

It's important to remember that even if you're eligible for the Adult Drug Court program, you're not guaranteed admittance.

Facing the consequences of breaking the law is never easy, but it can be easier with a legal professional who can advocate for your best interests. A diversion program such as the Adult Drug Court can keep a felony charge off of your record while preparing you for a brighter future.
